The NECsaids (NorthEast China Seismic Array to Investigate Deep Subduction) array was set up to study the details of the upper-mantle structure beneath northeast China to better understand the geometry and deep subduction process of the western Pacific slab. The NECsaids array was deployed through a series of field installing works undertaken in August 2010, October 2011, and July 2012 (Wang et al., 2016). The NECsaids array comprises 60 portable broadband seismic stations, configured with two main lines that are perpendicular to and parallel with the western Pacific deep subducted slab, respectively. The inter-station spacing within the two linear array is approximately 20–35 km, and the distance between our portable stations and the adjacent permanent seismic stations is approximately 70 km. All stations in the NECsaids array stayed in operation until October 2014, and 22 stations continued running afterward, among which 20 stations kept recording by August 2017 (Wang et al., 2016).
